We are excited to share the 2018-19 Lumity Annual Report
The holiday season is upon us, and there is no better time to thank our Lumity donors and volunteers. To celebrate their commitment to Chicago youth, we are excited to share the 2018-19 Lumity Annual Report.
As you will see in the Report, there is much to be inspired and hopeful about. Because of our donors and volunteers, Lumity engages Chicagoland students with transformative experiences that prepare them for lifelong STEM careers. In schools, we assist teachers in making STEM learning exciting and relevant. We bring corporate mentors into classrooms—and students into companies. And we bring both out into the field to design tech-based solutions to our city’s challenges.
At Amundsen, Chicago Vocational Career Academy, and Von Steuben high schools, Lumity worked closely with teachers to engage 640 students in our STEM Career Prep program. Of those students, more than 80% reported improved skills across all professional competencies that were measured. We provided after-school and summer programs in robotics and hands-on STEM experiences and trained more than 345 teachers to teach the Code.org computer science curriculum. Last summer, in partnership with Chicago Public Schools, Chicago CRED, Chicago Beyond, Accenture, Creospan, Cognizant, Legacy Healthcare, Mess, Pactiv, and PSAV, we piloted a Pre-Apprenticeship Program to prepare students for entry-level positions in health care, manufacturing and technology.
Lumity’s impact is growing, and it is due to the commitment of our individual donors, 27 partner companies, and 275 volunteers.
We encourage you to take a look at our Annual Report. Even better than the Report’s data are its pictures of students. Their joy and engagement are evident.
