Global Technology Provider Saggezza Joins Forces with Nonprofit Lumity to Help Teens Prepare for Careers in STEM

CHICAGO, October 18, 2019 – Saggezza, a Chicago-based global technology solutions provider and consulting firm, today announced its co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, Socka Suppiah will support Lumity as a member of its Board of Governors. Lumity is a Chicago-based non-profit that prepares teens and youth from underserved communities for lifelong careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, Suppiah represents Saggezza’s commitment to cultivating a rich technology community in Chicago by promoting real-world experiences in STEM to youth across the city.

“The combined expertise in science, technology, engineering, math, and finance that’s already behind Lumity is staggering – it’s the best Chicago has to offer,” said Suppiah. “I’m humbled to be a part of it, and I’m thrilled that Saggezza’s own history of promoting tech to Chicago’s students is merging with Lumity’s established network of programming that’s already touched the lives of so many young people.”

“We all know firsthand the rewarding nature of a career in STEM. We’re proud to share our experiences with our city’s youth and, hopefully, spark some interest that inspires them to follow similar paths in their education and their future careers”

Lumity helps make STEM more exciting and relevant for students at Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Lumity’s programming connects CPS students with leaders from local companies who provide eye-opening experiences, valuable mentorship and practical education students might not receive otherwise.

The program also aims to provide a unique foundation for success by fostering character development, teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Site visits and community projects show students how scientific and mathematical concepts can be applied in the real world, while in-school talks, often given by professionals who grew up in the students’ same neighborhoods, reinforce the attainability of a future in STEM.

“To continue impacting the lives of Chicago’s youth, Lumity needs our city’s tech leaders to recognize the importance of STEM education in traditionally underserved communities,” said Steve Betts, Chair of the Board of Governors at Lumity. “Saggezza will help us develop the next generation of entrepreneurs by demonstrating to students the exciting ways that science, technology, engineering and mathematics shape our lives and our futures.”

Saggezza will support Lumity alongside its established 0Gravity programs, which promote technical education to students in the U.S., India and England. In late 2018, 0Gravity launched in Chicago when Saggezza led on-location coding workshops for groups of female students to boost female involvement in STEM. Currently, the company runs hour-long, weekly coding workshops for students at Ryan Banks Academy, Chicago’s first tuition-free, co-educational urban boarding school.
