Better than Kale: Lumity News that Makes You Feel Good
Lumity is attracting national attention! Lumity is proud to announce that we are one of three organizations in Illinois to receive the prestigious Education Innovation and Research grant (EIR) from the U.S. Department of Education. Nationwide, only 15% of applicants were award recipients. We’re more than a bit pleased to be named with such STEM education luminaries as the Smithsonian Institution, The New York Hall of Sciences and Code.org.
The EIR grant bolsters our STEM Career Prep program, currently going strong at Amundsen, Chicago Vocational Career Academy and Von Steuben high schools. It also supports a new partnership with Outlier Research and Evaluation at UChicago STEM Education, so that we continue to learn, improve and best prepare Chicagoland’s next generation of STEM leaders.
What makes our STEM Career Prep program truly special are our corporate STEM volunteers. Lumity volunteers advise and guide our students through STEM Talks and corporate visits, work with students in Real World Projects to design tech solutions to a community challenge, and mentor students as they pitch their STEM Ideas to business leaders, culminating in Lumity’s Annual STEM Fair.
We’re so pleased to be working with corporate, school and national partners pushing the edges of what STEM education and high school means for Chicago youth. We encourage you to join us!
