Jennifer Village’s Lumity Journey
STEM professionals discover Lumity through all kinds of connections. For Jennifer Village, it started with a conversation at a Lumity Annual Gala.
A team of students was presenting an idea for a tracking bracelet designed to help prevent human trafficking. The concept was deeply personal. A friend of the students had been kidnapped and killed by traffickers, inspiring them to create a solution that could help protect others.
“It was eye-opening” Jennifer recalled. “I knew I wanted to get involved.” That first encounter in 2017 marked the beginning of a lasting commitment to Lumity’s mission. Since then, Jennifer has stepped up time and again to support the organization.
She has recruited colleagues to volunteer as coaches and mentors for Lumity programs and events. Together, they hosted one-day challenges, conferences, and a design class, creating meaningful opportunities for students to explore STEM pathways.
Jennifer has also become one of Lumity’s strongest advocates, introducing new volunteers and donors to the organization and helping expand its network of support. Her leadership has extended to service on both the Associate Board and Board of Directors.
Opening Doors to New Possibilities
“Lumity gives young people a chance to experience something they ordinarily wouldn’t,” Jennifer said. “They learn so many important lessons through their Lumity experiences. They learn they have worth. They learn they can succeed if they put their minds to something and stick with it. I love that we help them develop a complete set of tools. They learn public speaking, how to sell an idea, and how to think outside the box.”
Lumity’s impact resonates deeply with Jennifer because it creates measurable, lasting change in students’ lives. “One of the best things about Lumity is that we can measure the impact we’re having on young people. We know where they are today, and we can see how their lives change for the better,” she explained
Now, after nearly a decade of volunteerism, advocacy, and leadership, Jennifer is taking on a new role as Chair of Lumity’s Board of Directors.
Jennifer’s dedication and her belief in the potential of every young person have helped strengthen Lumity and expand its impact. We are grateful for all she has done—and will continue to do—to help students discover new possibilities and build brighter futures.
