Kara Kennedy has dedicated her career to nonprofits, ranging from health care, voluntary health associations, and youth-based organizations. Kara joined Lumity in August 2009. She previously worked at Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the American Lung Association of Metro Chicago (known as Respiratory Health Association of Metro Chicago), Alzheimer’s Association, and two community-based hospitals. As the Executive Director of Lumity, Kara brings expertise in program development and management, strategic planning, and organizational development.
In her 12 years at Lumity, Kara stabilized the organization and transitioned its mission from providing IT and finance consulting services for nonprofits to providing teens and young adults from systemically under-resourced communities with transformational experiences to prepare them for lifelong STEM careers. Through these transitions, Lumity’s budget has over doubled.
