Ask Alex Crick how he got involved with Lumity, and his answer is simple. Clarity Partners Managing Partner Rodney Zech invited him to sit at their company’s table at Lumity’s annual benefit. For Alex, however, this wasn’t just a command performance for the boss. Alex was so moved by what he heard at the gala that he asked Rod how he could get more involved.

Not long afterward, Alex signed on as an associate board member and began his volunteer journey with Lumity. Over the course of more than three years, he has been jumping in wherever needed and sharing his time and talents in myriad ways.

Alex has assisted at our resume-writing and job interview skills workshops. He’s spent several days helping to paint both the interior and exterior walls of our new Maywood Training Center. He has led one-day challenge events that help participants sharpen their problem-solving skills. He has judged student projects and represented Lumity at a nonprofit job fair. Earlier this year, he and his fellow associate board members broke a Super Bowl Squares fundraising record, beating the previous sales record by 127.

Why does he volunteer? For Alex, there are many reasons. “I was raised to believe that you should help those in need. And it feels good to be able to do so. We can help graduates cross the finish line and land their first STEM jobs. It brings a lot of fulfillment and enjoyment.”

Alex now chairs our associate board. He says he’s also gaining leadership experience as he and the group push themselves to identify other ways they can drive results. “I love Lumity,” says Alex. “I’m so glad I attended that first gala and got inspired to get involved.”

Be like Alex.
