Former Tire Shop Will be Transformed into a Dynamic Learning Space Dedicated to Training Youth for STEM Careers in Construction, Trades, Healthcare, Manufacturing, and More
We’re thrilled to share that work is beginning on the new Lumity Training Center in Maywood! A groundbreaking event will celebrate the project’s launch on Monday, April 8, at 2 p.m. Lumity and elected officials will gather to celebrate the kickoff of construction on the Lumity Training Center, a new dynamic learning space in Maywood for young people without a college or career plan. Joining the Lumity team for this special occasion will be Illinois Senate Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford, Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, Cook County Commissioner Tara Stamps, and Village of Maywood Mayor Nathaniel George Booker.
Lumity recently purchased the dilapidated building and will transform it into a new, vibrant community resource for teens and young adults from Chicago and the western suburbs. When the work is done this summer, the Lumity Training Center will offer FREE, hands-on skills training to prepare youth for careers in construction, the building trades, healthcare, manufacturing, and more—all grounded in STEM. Fully equipped with tools, classrooms, and a workshop, the Lumity Training Center will be a place where young people can learn new skills and prepare to launch successful careers in high-demand fields.
The design of the new training center is by Present Future Architects and managed by Hosler Project Management. Construction by D. Jones Construction, LLC.
