Chikara Sims, Construction & Trades Pathways Pre-Apprenticeship Program graduate
Like many of the young people who come through our doors, Chikara Sims was feeling unsure about his career plans when he arrived at Lumity. He had a steady job but felt that his earning potential was limited, and he wanted more out of life.
Chikara enrolled in our Construction & Trades Pathways Pre-Apprenticeship Program. Along with his classmates, he toured union training facilities and saw for himself what a day looks like for union members in a wide variety of building professions. His Lumity experience turned out to be the springboard to an entirely new career. Chikara soon discovered his passion for working with his hands and building things. After graduating from his program, he passed the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council entrance exam and joined the union for his apprenticeship.
