On June 30, we celebrate the ribbon-cutting and official grand opening of The Lumity STEMWorks Training Center in Maywood. We’re excited to report that this amazing new community resource is now complete.
We set our sights on Maywood as a community where Lumity could have a big impact and began work in 2024. When we took possession of the property, the building was in rough shape. It needed a new roof, structural supports, and a complete gut rehab. Thanks to an incredible team, it has been transformed into a welcoming and well-equipped learning space for program participants.
We’ll cut the ribbon on this beautiful new center at a special celebration on June 30. Join us to mark its completion and tour the building, which now features a large workshop for hands-on training, classrooms, a counseling space, and a youth lounge.
The Lumity STEMWorks Training Center is designed for young people without a college or career plan. The center offers free, on-site training programs including:
- YouthBuild Proviso Township – a workforce development program focused on construction, job training, leadership development, and support services while supporting youth in obtaining their high school diploma/GED
- Construction & Trades Pathway – a pre-apprenticeship program offering classroom instruction and hands-on training to prepare youth to transition to an apprenticeship in the building trades successfully
- Career Launch – an intensive, holistic program for high school graduates interested in STEM-related careers in IT, healthcare, manufacturing, and more
The Lumity STEMWorks Training Center is a life-changing resource. It’s a place where young people are gaining the skills, confidence, and mentorship they need to succeed and thrive in today’s workforce. It’s thanks to our dream team of supporters, donors, volunteers, and project partners that this new space has come to life. Please join us to celebrate the opening of this new center and to recognize everyone who has contributed to the delivery of this innovative learning space.
We look forward to seeing you there! Click here to RSVP.
