A kid from Chicago, born and raised in the south suburbs, Kevin Phillips, joined Lumity in 2021 with a passion for mentoring and guiding Chicago’s youth in a better direction. Kevin attended Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, where he received his associate’s degree, and went on to Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana, where he received his Bachelor’s in Communication. During those college years, Kevin was involved in numerous mentoring activities, volunteering for basketball camps, and playing basketball for his schools. He turned dreams into reality, traveling to Europe, where he played International Basketball for some time. His love for helping youth off the court came to fruition when he was asked to mentor at a nearby elementary school close to his college. This experience sparked numerous volunteer opportunities, and a connection led Kevin back to his passion for working with deserving young people from his community. His end goal is to make sure each young person we serve feels they have the support they need in the real world and that the narrative on kids from Chicago changes for the better.
