Support Lumity’s Code.org® Regional Workshops

You can help teach thousands of kids Computer Science!

In 2016 Lumity became a Code.org® Regional Partner in Illinois. Code.org® is a non-profit dedicated to expanding access to computer science and increasing participation by women and underrepresented minorities. Students who learn computer science in high school are 6 times more likely to major in it. Women: 10x more likely. Our vision is that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry or algebra.

Code.org® organizes the annual Hour of Code campaign which has engaged 10% of all students in the world and provides the leading curriculum for K-12 computer science in the largest school districts in the United States.

Through our partnership with Code.org, Lumity:

  • Hosts professional development sessions for in-service K-12 teachers all over Illinois implementing Code.org curriculum;
  • Recruits additional school districts to adopt Code.org curriculum in their classrooms, and
  • Helps convene Computer Science Teachers Association groups to support their growth and impact in the classroom.

In order to train teachers how to teach the most current and effective computer science courses in our schools, Lumity and Code.org® pay their way (we all know teachers shouldn’t have to reach into their own pockets).

We need your help to reach our $10,000 goal. Please invest in the future of Computer Science Education in Chicago. When you donate $208 to Lumity’s Code.org® campaign you will be supporting 100 students. Then ask your friends in the industry to join you. Every bit helps.
